Lane4 helps you find jobs on employers’ own careers sites and keep track of your search: applications, the people you talk to, interviews and resumes. This policy explains what information Lane4 holds, why, which companies help us run it, how long it’s kept, and how you can see, export or delete it. Lane4 does not sell personal information and shows no advertising.
Lane4 is operated by to be provided: the legal name of the business operating Lane4 (“Lane4”, “we”, “us”). In this policy, “your data” means information about you that Lane4 holds in your account.
Two kinds of data live in Lane4, and they’re handled differently:
Please don’t put sensitive information (such as health details, government ID numbers or financial account numbers) in notes or free-text fields; Lane4 doesn’t need it.
When you add a contact, you’re giving Lane4 information about someone else: their name, title, company, email, LinkedIn profile, when you contacted them, meetings, messages you sent and your notes. You should only record information you obtained legitimately and need for your job search.
Lane4 treats this information as part of your private data:
The one exception to “private”: a company name you type that Lane4 didn’t already know is added to Lane4’s shared list of companies (just the name), so it can look for that company’s careers site. Nothing links it back to you or your contact.
Like any website, Lane4’s hosting provider (Vercel) receives technical request information such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver and protect the service. Lane4’s own application logs record events and error types (for example “resume upload rejected: too large”); they’re designed not to contain your resume, notes, contacts, AI prompts, email address or payment details.
Cookies and browser storage are described in Cookies and browser storage.
Lane4 does not use your data for advertising, does not sell it, and does not use it to train AI models.
Lane4 uses AI models from Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI to read job postings, to summarize your stated preferences, to assess how well a posting fits you, and to notice patterns in your feedback. Requests go from Lane4’s servers to the provider; your browser never talks to them directly.
What may be sent to an AI provider
What is never sent: your name, email address or sign-in details; your contacts; your interviews; your application notes; your minimum pay (Lane4 checks pay itself) and work authorization; billing or payment information; analytics identifiers; and anything belonging to another user.
Your resume is read to build your career profile. When you upload a resume, Lane4 reads it once and sends its career content to an AI provider to pull out your job titles, employers, dates, responsibilities, accomplishments, skills, education and certifications. That is what fills in your work profile during set-up, and what a job-specific resume would later be built from. It happens when you upload a file, or when you ask us to try again — not every time you open a page.
Your contact details are removed first. Before any of that text reaches an AI provider, Lane4 separates out your name, email address, phone number, street address and any links (LinkedIn, a portfolio) and replaces them with placeholders. Those details are stored on your own profile, not sent. The model receives your experience, not who you are, and if anything that looks like an email address or a phone number is still in the text, Lane4 stops rather than sending it.
The file itself never leaves Lane4’s private storage — it isn’t uploaded to an AI provider. What Lane4 reads out of it is yours: it appears in your account export, you can correct it, and it is deleted with your account. Nothing you correct is overwritten by a later reading.
What AI output means. Scores, summaries and explanations are AI-generated estimates to help you decide where to spend your time. They can be wrong or incomplete, they are not an employer’s view, and they don’t decide anything about you: no one is hired or rejected because of them, and they are never shared with employers. AI never creates or changes job links and never decides whether a job exists or is open; those come only from employers’ own job systems.
Stated preferences come first. What you tell Lane4 always wins over anything AI infers. Learned preferences are only soft hints for ranking. You can turn learning off, or clear what’s been learned, in Settings → Account → Your data.
Lane4 keeps AI outputs in your account (matches, summaries, learned preferences) but does not store the prompts it sends. AI providers process requests under their own terms, which govern how long they keep request data.
Lane4 finds postings by reading employers’ public careers sites and job systems (such as Greenhouse or Workday). To search them, Lane4 uses job titles that users list as targets, combined across all users and without anything that identifies who listed them. No personal information about you is sent to employers by Lane4.
When you open a posting or apply, you leave Lane4 for the employer’s site or job system. What you give them is governed by their privacy policy, not this one. See also Job listings in the Terms.
Paid plans are processed by Stripe. Card and bank details are entered on Stripe’s pages and go to Stripe; Lane4 never sees or stores them. Lane4 gives Stripe your email address (for receipts) and an internal account reference, and nothing about your job search. Lane4 keeps only your plan, subscription status and dates, and the Stripe references needed to connect your account to your subscription.
With your permission, Lane4 uses Google Analytics 4 to see which screens and features are used, so we can improve them. Until you choose “Allow analytics”, Google’s script isn’t loaded and nothing is sent. You can change your choice any time in Settings, and declining doesn’t change anything else in Lane4.
Lane4 sends Google Analytics only page names (with record ids removed), the campaign tags (“utm_” parameters) of the link you arrived by, the website you came from (its address only), and a fixed list of event names and categories, such as “saved a job” or “onboarding step completed”. It never sends your name, email, resume, contacts, notes, salaries, job titles, companies, links, AI output, anything you type, or any Lane4 or Stripe identifier. Google Analytics identifies your browser with its own random cookie, not with your Lane4 account. Advertising features, Google Signals and ad personalization are switched off.
These companies process information on Lane4’s behalf to run the service. They receive only what their part of the service needs.

Deleting your account (Settings → Delete account) asks you to confirm and to re-verify your sign-in, then:
What stays, and why:
If removing your data can’t finish straight away (for example, file storage is briefly unavailable), your sign-in is still deleted, Lane4 tells you the rest is pending, and it retries automatically until it’s done. Any historical early-access record is retired, not given to someone else.
Every request for your data is checked against your signed-in account on the server. Resume files are stored privately and are only ever returned to you, through Lane4. Secrets and payment processing stay on the server or with Stripe. Connections are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee that information will never be accessed without authorization; if you believe your account has been compromised, change your password and contact us.
Lane4 is a job-search tool for adults and isn’t directed to children. You must be at least to be provided: minimum age to use it. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Lane4 and its service providers may process information in the United States and in other countries where those providers operate.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict some uses of it. Most of these are available to you directly in Lane4 (see Your choices and controls). For anything else, contact us at the address below.
If Lane4 starts collecting new kinds of information or using it in new ways, this policy will be updated first, and the date at the top will change. For significant changes we’ll tell you in the product or by email before they take effect.
